Ampla Energia announced earnings results for the first half of 2014. For the period, the company reported a net loss of BRL 67 million against a net profit of BRL 262.6 million a year ago. The negative result was attributed to increased costs for the purchase of electricity from costlier thermal plants.

Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) came in at BRL 363.1 million. The company's revenue increased by 13.1% to BRL 2.91 billion, bolstered by strong electricity sales and a 2.64% rise in tariffs as of March 2014.
