SGS has been officially approved as a Validation and Verification Body (VVB) under Smart Freight Centre's Conformity Assessment Scheme. The approval from Smart Freight Centre, an international non-profit organization, dedicated to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from freight transportation, follows a rigorous learning and examination process, showcasing our commitment to excellence and precision.

As a newly authorized VVB, SGS is now approved to validate and verify GHG emissions statements for transport chains. This accreditation significantly enhances our credibility in GHG emissions verification within the freight transport sector.

Independent assurance of GHG emissions and reporting

Smart Freight Centre's Conformity Assessment Scheme offers emission reporters independent assurance of GHG emissions and reporting. The scheme promotes a database of Validation and Verification Bodies (VVBs), including SGS, that reporters can trust to carry out a competent, impartial verification service.

Francesca Cerchia, SGS Head of Climate Change & Sustainability Solutions, said: "The Smart Freight Centre Assessment Scheme (CAS), based on ISO 14083, provides a framework to calculate and report GHG emissions from transport chain operations. Our approval as a VVB marks the inclusion of an additional GHG emission verification service to our climate change portfolio of solutions."

How can the Conformity Assessment Scheme support you?

Work with SGS to check whether you comply with ISO 14083. We enable you to:

  • Gain a practical emissions reporting template that covers all of ISO 14083 and GLEC V3.0
  • Demonstrate to your clients or any other stakeholder that your GHG Monitoring Plan is complete, correct and adequate
  • Confirm the transparency and data quality of your reporting

As we continue with our verification services, we will further grow our skills and competences in line with Smart Freight Centre and the new ISO 14083 standard.

Beatriz Alonso, SGS Climate Change and Water Coordinator, said: "Our experience as GHG emissions verifiers has been pivotal in our achievement of CAS Validation and Verification Body approval. Our third-party verifier role for CAB strengthens our position in the logistics sector."
