SAO PAULO, April 24 (Reuters) - Brazilian oil and gas companies Eneva and PetroReconcavo said in separate security filings on Wednesday that they are not engaged in negotiations about a possible merger of their businesses.

Local newspaper Valor Economico reported earlier in the day, citing sources familiar with the matter, that Eneva and PetroReconcavo were discussing a potential merger.

Eneva said that although it is not engaged in any negotiations or has not signed any documents with PetroReconcavo, it "constantly analyzes business opportunities that could strengthen its position in its sector". (Reporting by Peter Frontini; Writing by Steven Grattan; editing by Gabriel Araujo)
