BAE Systems announces that it has been awarded an $87.2 million contract by the US Navy for repair work aboard the landing ship USS Carter Hall.

The contract includes options which, if exercised, would bring the total contract value to $92.2 million.

As part of the contract, the USS Carter Hall will undergo one year of restoration work at the Norfolk, Virginia shipyard - the ship's home port.

BAE Systems will begin work on the 610-foot-long (186-meter) ship in July 2024, combining maintenance and preservation work.

The USS Carter Hall was commissioned in September 1995 and was designed to carry 420 sailors and up to 500 Marines.
