(Alliance News) - March was another month of growth for Aeroporto Guglielmo Marconi di Bologna Spa, with passengers up 9.4 percent year-on-year to 739,284.

In detail, they recorded increases in both passengers on domestic flights at 170,433 or 9.0 percent over March 2023 and passengers on international flights at 568,851 or 9.5 percent over the same month last year. Movements, at 5,381, also grew on March 2023 by 4.9%. On the other hand, air cargo, at 3,737 tons, down 7.1 percent.

Marconi passengers' favorite destinations in March were Catania, Tirana, Barcelona, Paris De Gaulle, Palermo, Madrid, Istanbul, London Heathrow, Bucharest, and Rome Fiumicino.

In the first quarter of 2024, total passengers were 1.9 million, up 8.1 percent over the same period in 2023, while movements were 14,819, up 5.7 percent over 2023.

Air cargo transported in the January-March period was 10,868 tons, up 1.8 percent on 2023.

Meanwhile, work on the expansion of the Schengen boarding hall, modernization and upgrading of the Security area, and the construction of a new multi-storey parking lot have entered into full swing. Upon completion of the work, scheduled for next year, the Marconi will offer its passengers a completely renovated boarding hall, with an 82 percent increase in operating space and 94 percent increase in existing seating, and an expanded Security area equipped with new radiogenic machines that allow for much faster and more effective screening of carry-on baggage. In 2025, the first of two bodies of the new multi-story parking lot, which will have a total of 2,200 parking spaces, will also be ready.

Bologna's Aeroporto Guglielmo Marconi stock closed Wednesday up 0.3 percent at EUR7.92 per share.
