Jobless claims remained unchanged last week in the United States, but this stability is not enough to call into question the underlying downward trend in a labor market that remains very tight.

The Labor Department announced that jobless claims totaled 212,000 for the week ending April 13, unchanged from the previous week's figure, which was revised up by 1,000 from 211,000.000.

The four-week moving average, considered a better gauge of labor market trends by smoothing the weekly figures, also remained stable at 214,500.

The number of people continuing to receive regular benefits rose by 2,000 to 1.81 million in the week to April 6.
