Dubai Electricity and Water Authority's (DEWA) works on the Jebel Ali M-Station Expansion project are 70% complete.

M-Station is an electricity generation and water desalination plant in Dubai, which was built at a cost of $2.7bn (AED10.15bn), and is being implemented in phases since mid-2010.

Siemens and DEWA have been working together since 2015 on the project's construction, engineering, and operations work.

M-Station's construction and expansion works reportedly amount to $3.1bn (AED11.5bn).

Upon completion of expansion activities in 2018, the station's total capacity will reach 2,885 megawatts (MW).

Expansion work being carried out for the project includes the provision of new power generating units, which will add 700MW to the station's installed capacity.

Two dual-fuel gas turbine generators, two heat-recovery steam boilers, and a steam turbine with 90% fuel efficiency, will also be added to the plant.

These additions are expected to increase the plant's thermal efficiency from 82.4% to 85.8%.

These details were revealed during a progress review tour of the plant, headed by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of DEWA, in addition to representatives from the utility body and Siemens.

Work completed on the project so far includes pouring 45,000m3 of concrete, which is 96% complete and erecting 4,900 tonnes of structural steel and heavy metal work, 75% of which has been completed.

The project's team has recorded 8.3 million man-hours without any injuries, Dubai Media Office reported.
