STATEMENT REGARDING SUMMONS UNDER THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND ENHANCEMENT ACT AND OIL AND GAS CONSERVATION ACT
At Tourmaline Oil Corp., the safety of our employees, contractors and the public is our top priority and we have significant protocols in place to ensure the safety of all stakeholders and the environment.
On January 20, 2020, we received a summons under the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act and Oil and Gas Conservation Act relating to an incident that occurred nearly two years ago.
Specifically, on February 25, 2018, during an operation by a contractor on a non-producing well near Grande Prairie, a small amount of gas containing hydrogen sulphide (H2S) was released. While the release was localized, the contractor conducting the operation was temporarily affected.
We have protocols in place to provide for safety in the event of incidents like this, and these were activated in this case. After ensuring the safety of the contractor and the environment, we immediately notified Alberta's Occupational Health and Safety agency.
During the past 23 months Tourmaline has cooperated fully and diligently with the Alberta Energy Regulator investigation and was unaware of potential charges until the press release this morning. As a responsible operator and steward of the environment, Tourmaline takes these allegations seriously and will continue to work to resolve the matter.
