City of Jackson, Mississippi replaces 800 parking meters with kiosk system

Starting the week of Apr. 22, about 800 parking meters will be replaced with a new kiosk parking system in downtown Jackson, Mississippi, according to a WAPT 16 news report.

SP Plus will install the kiosks throughout Jackson's downtown area. The parking rate will be $1 an hour to start and drivers can pay with cash, card or an app and enter their license plate number.

"This modernized system will result in a greater parking space availability and convenience for residents and visitors to Jackson," Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba told the news outlet.

Lumumba also told the news outlet that the system promises to bring in more than $2 million a year in revenue.
