(Alliance News) - Seplat Energy PLC on Thursday announced the commissioning of the ANOH gas processing plant in Nigeria.

The Nigeria-focused oil and gas producer said the plant was formally commissioned by Nigerian president Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday.

ANOH Gas Processing Co is a joint venture between Seplat Energy and NNPC Gas Infrastructure Co Ltd.

Seplat Energy said the JV is delivering the ANOH gas plant with phase one processing capacity of 300 million standard cubic feet per day.

When operations begin, Seplat Energy said the plant will deliver dry gas and liquefied petroleum gas to customers in the domestic market.

It said the commissioning was achieved without a single recordable lost time incident (LTI) across 12 million man-hours, a "testament to the focus of the whole team on safe and secure operations".

The ANOH gas plant installation works reached mechanical completion in late December, Seplat Energy noted, in line with the revised timetable.

Seplat Energy said the plant was "an important strategic project" for it, as the plant will roughly double its gas production and enhance the Nigerian government's initiative to increase the value derived from the country's gas assets.

"As a testament of our pledge to Nigeria, in partnership with the NNPC Ltd, we have delivered this project that will support the current administration's drive for industrialization and growth of the economy through low-cost reliable power. We appreciate the unwavering support of our partner NNPCL, the cordial relationship with our host communities, Imo state government and the support of all stakeholders," said Seplat Energy Chair Udoma Udo Udoma.

"Seplat Energy is pleased with the progressive reforms by His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration. In March 2024, the president signed executive orders that will enhance investments in greenfield gas development and midstream capital projects."

Seplat Energy Chief Executive Officer Roger Brown commented: "ANOH's gas will further reduce Nigeria's carbon intensity and increase energy supplied to the Nigerian domestic market. At Assa community of Imo state where the AGPC's gas plant is located, we estimate over four trillion cubic feet of gas which can feed multiple gas plants, making Assa and Imo state a significant gas processing hub, delivering critical gas supply into the Nigerian market."

Shares in Seplat Energy were down 1.0% to 155.50 pence each in London on Thursday afternoon.
