RSC Energia: crew transportation spacecraft Federatsiya interface evaluation

RSC Energia specialists started a new series of Federatsiya human-machine interface evaluation experiments.

In preparation for this experiment phase the test engineers used technical documentation on the spacecraft onboard systems based on which they formed proposals on development of information-control formats for the propulsion, power supply, life support, motion control, navigation and other systems.

- Since Federatsiya is a transportation spacecraft, and the main crew activity on board the spacecraft is to control the onboard systems, this part of work is of prime importance. Information control formats are what is displayed on the cosmonaut's console: a pictorial representation of onboard systems, flight processes and modes, as well as indication and commands which can be issued by the crew. Gradually, in the course of a series of experimental evaluations, we will formulate proposals on a human-machine interface, which in turn will give the developers a complete idea of what the crew needs to control this spacecraft', said Mark Serov, Deputy Head of RSC Energia Flight-Space Center.

A series of experimental evaluations will last until the end of the year. The specialists are planning to test all spacecraft flight modes: from the injection to docking and transition to the flight path to the Moon.
