Japan finished fifth in the men's team ski jumping event at the Beijing Olympics on Monday, dashing Ryoyu Kobayashi's hopes of a third medal at the 2022 Games.

The Japan team of Kobayashi, his older brother Junshiro, Naoki Nakamura and Yukiya Sato scored 882.8 points to finish almost 60 points behind the gold medal-winning team from Austria.

Slovenia took silver and Germany bronze.

Japan last won an Olympic medal in the event when it claimed bronze in Sochi in 2014.

Ryoyu won men's normal hill gold and large hill silver earlier in the games but has now missed the podium in both the mixed team and men's team event despite stellar individual performances in each.
