Yayasan Azman Hashim gives food supplies to Orang Asli in Bentong
BENTONG: Yayasan Azman Hashim (YAH) via its "Program Makanan Orang Asli" has reached out to more Orang Asli communities in Bentong, Pahang as part of its effort to provide targeted assistance to those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The food supplies were delivered by staff of Amcorp Perting 6MW Mini Hydro Power Plant to nine more Orang Asli villages as follows:
2 November 2021
- Hulu Cemperoh (74 families)
- Kg Sungai Miak (56 families)
6 November 2021
- Kg Sungai Bot (100 families)
- Kg Batu 19 (10 families)
- Sungai Penjuring (24 families)
- Hulu Pareh (129 families)
8 November 2021
- Sungai Poh (15 families)
- Hulu Semei (47 families)
- Kg Sungai Gapoi (90 families)
The 545 families were identified by the Jabatan Kemajuan Orang Asli (JAKOA) Bentong as families in need.
In total, YAH has contributed RM596,720.00 to its "Program Makanan Orang Asli", which benefitted 1,040 Orang Asli families in Bentong, including its previous 2 outreaches to 7 Orang Asli villages (495 families) in July and August 2021.
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought upon devastating impact to the Orang Asli communities. Their daily source of income which mainly derived from the sale of agricultural products to traders from Klang Valley are reduced as interstate travelling was previously barred, rendering traders unable to make it to Bentong for the purchase. Sale of these products to local market yields lower price due to saturation and low demand. Some Orang Asli who were working in Bentong area are also affected by layoffs as businesses are not able to operate.
YAH is a non-profit charitable organization founded by philanthropist entrepreneur Tan Sri Azman Hashim in 1991 with the ultimate goal to give back to the society and alleviate human suffering. Its core activities focus on improving education to transform lives.
