Yayasan Azman Hashim builds solar electricity and water purification system for Orang Asli affected by flood in Bentong

BENTONG: Yayasan Azman Hashim (YAH) will provide individual home solar electricity system and a communal solar powered water purification system costing for all 11 Orang Asli household in Kg Batu 19, Karak, Bentong Pahang. These 11 houses in Kg Batu 19 were almost completely destroyed by the December 2021 flood.

The individual home solar system with 2 solar panels each is able to power up a few lights, a mini fridge and a small appliance such as a mobile phone 24 hour per day.

The communal water purification system, comprises a pressure pump powered by 2 solar panels, a water filter, a raw water tank and a processed water tank, is able to cater for the village's daily use. Both systems can be procured and installed and ready for use within a 2- month timeframe.

YAH has appointed Saora Industries to supply, install and maintain the home solar electricity and solar powered communal water purification system. The total cost of the project of RM89,000 will be funded by YAH. Saora Industries is a social enterprise inspired by the dire need of clean and safe drinking water for the masses in rural and marginalised communities.

YAH has been keeping the welfare of the Orang Asli communities in Bentong and Raub close to its heart. In 2021 and 2022, YAH had contributed food aid to these Orang Asli families to ease their burden due to financial difficulties arising from the COVID-19 pandemic and the December 2021 flood.
