IDC Asia/Pacific and Female IT-Leaders Celebrate Women's Month.

The global community unites once again to celebrate women from all different walks of life for International Women's Month. In virtual spaces where a digital-first culture is on the rise, we can see that what was traditionally seen as a male-dominated field is beginning to give way to the female technology professional and is made all the better for it. Though the benefits of gender diversity in business are acknowledged by the general public, there is still much work to be done in the name of equality. A good place to start is recognizing the contributions that women in technology have made in their respective fields.

May Yap of Jabil named as CIO of the Year:

As vice president and CIO of Jabil Green Point (JGP), May Yap was tasked to transform IT processes to align with Industry 4.0 standards. By clearly defining digital transformation into three distinct parts: people, process, and technology, Yap strategically spearheaded several key transformation programs at JGP. With a mandate for a leaner organization that thrives on collaboration, Yap outlined plans to promote digital literacy and technology advocacy within the JGP workforce by promoting data education and technology awareness and leveraging data visualization and analytics to drive a mindset change. Yap emphasizes mobility and usability to drive the need for faster, more scalable, cloud-based solutions which has led to making smarter JGP factories. These efforts paid off in 2019 when she successfully established the first lighthouse in JGP, a next-generation connected factory that will be replicated across all other sites.

Martha Sazon of Mynt (Globe Fintech Innovations, Inc.) named as CEO of the Year:

It was at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in June 2020 that Martha Sazon was appointed as the CEO of Mynt (Globe Fintech Innovations Inc.), known for its leading fintech application in the Philippines, GCash. Rather than be daunted by the difficult circumstances facing consumers and businesses brought by the ongoing pandemic, Martha saw the wide range of opportunities it presented to serve Filipinos-2 out of 3 of whom remain unbanked and without access to financial services at this crucial time. Recognizing this, Martha was eager to face the challenge. Under Martha's leadership, it did not take long for GCash to grow and make a difference across the country-even in remote rural areas that are often left unreached. Today, GCash has doubled the number of its registered users from over 20 million in January 2020 to over 40 million by May 2021 with about 40% of Filipinos having a GCash account.

Sandra Ng, Group Vice President and General Manager for IDC Asia/Pacific and Japan shared her sentiments on women in the technology industry, 'I belong to a generation of career women where we saw the meteoric rise of IT and I personally benefitted from it. This rise came with its challenges. As a woman in technology, particularly in Asia in the early 90s, I often sat in meetings and attended conferences where I was the only or one of the very few women. In the last 5 years, in some markets, this has gone almost to the opposite end of the spectrum. As an analyst and frequent speaker in the technology world, I began to get invitations to speak because I am a woman.'

In a recent sentiment survey ran by IDC, almost 75% of CEOs in Asia/Pacific believe that Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) is an important priority in 2022. Diversity is a hot topic in the tech industry - and because it's discussed frequently, it can be easy to feel that things have already changed. However, women remain largely underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) roles around the world. Especially in Asia, where women are represented at the C-suite level even lower than the global average.

'For this International Women's Day, I would like to celebrate the success of my fellow peers and the call to recognize women in technology and all industries for our strengths and contributions. Happy International Women's Day!,' ends Ng.IDC's Future Enterprise Awards aims to recognize pioneering organizations and business leaders in a digital-first world. The acceleration of digital transformation (DX) throughout industries in the past few years has transcended a purely technologically-focused approach. At its very core, digital transformation is about cultural change. Beyond the technology aspect, change management is key, and there should be a clear focus on creating technological as well as cultural diversity in an organization.

The award categories feature the nine digital agenda items characteristic of the Future Enterprise as well as two categories each for organizations and business leaders. This year's Awards also includes a new category on sustainability.
