Today, five PostNL employees handed over a critical report to HR director Jeroen Veldstra. 29-year-old Maaike, parcel sorter at PostNL, gave a short speech and handed over a 30-kilo box of cat litter.

These are the conclusions of an FNV survey in which a total of 215 parcel workers working for PostNL participated. 85 percent of them indicated that the work is too physically demanding.

The report contains the results and conclusions of an FNV survey completed by 215 parcel workers. About half of them work as temporary workers.

The survey shows, among other things, that temporary workers suffer from back problems more often than permanent employees.

According to the union, the postal and parcel company deliberately works with temporary workers in parcel sorting, a physically demanding job. FNV estimates that some 90 percent of sorters are temporary workers.

In fact, nearly two-thirds have six different physical complaints. These range from back pain to strained shoulders and knees.

The FNV wants the postal and parcel company to take measures to structurally address the physical overload of parcel workers. These include practical matters such as providing extensive occupational health and safety instruction on healthy and safe working, sufficient tools and the deployment of more staff to reduce the workload. The union also wants PostNL to employ temporary workers on a permanent basis. Some of them have been working on temporary contracts for PostNL for years now
