HELSINKI, April 25 (Reuters) - Finland's Neste on Thursday posted first-quarter operating profit below forecast, citing a weak renewables market.

January-March comparable earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) fell to 551 million euros ($590.2 million) from 830 million euros a year earlier, missing the 692.2 million mean estimate of 10 analysts polled by LSEG.

"Our focus was on defending margins in a more challenging market as the market situation in renewable diesel was clearly weaker in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the previous year," Chief Executive Matti Lehmus said in a statement.
