Germany's Merck KGaA said its supervisory board has elected Michael Kleinemeier as chairman until the company's annual general meeting in April, when a new chair will be appointed.

Kleinemeier replaces Wolfgang Buechele, who moved to the role of chairman of the board of partners of the Merck family's holding company at the end of January, the German life-sciences and chemicals group said Thursday. Kleinemeier has been a supervisory-board member at the company since 2019 and was head of SAP's digital business services between 2015 and 2020, Merck said.

The company said its AGM, scheduled for April 26, is due to elect six new shareholder representatives, and that Buechele's position will be filled then. Until the AGM, the supervisory board will temporarily have 15 members instead of the usual 16, it said.
