Melbana Energy Limited (ASX: MAY) (Melbana) is pleased to provide this update on preparations for the commencement of drilling of the first appraisal well (designated Alameda2) in its Block 9 PSC area, onshore Cuba (Melbana 30% participating interest and operator).

Preparations for the assembly and installation of the rig are well-advanced and delivery of related equipment to the drill site is continuing with camp facilities now operational. Weather conditions are good. The next update on the expected start date of the commencement of drilling operations (spud date) for the first appraisal well will be made shortly, once a definitive date is agreed between our operational team and principal contractors

Melbana Energy's Executive Chairman, Andrew Purcell, commented: 'Activity has ramped up significantly over the past few weeks and the team is busy transporting equipment to prepare for the start of drilling operations. There are more moving parts this time given the additional considerations of testing and production logistics that have to be incorporated and everyone is working well together, exemplifying the experience and team work they have developed drilling the initial two exploration wells. It's satisfying to watch all this experience at work and pleasing to see the enthusiasm everyone has for the work program ahead.'
