Monthly Factsheet
31 December 2022
December Comment
As in prior years, December was a strong month for cash flows, with 2022's largest monthly total for capital calls ($132m), and 2022's second-largest monthly total for distributions received ($108m).
From this month we have amended one of our three financial ratios (see page 3), with the new Medium-term Coverage Ratio ("MCR") replacing the old Rolling Coverage Ratio ("RCR"). The MCR uses the same formula as the RCR, but while previously the forecast cash flow inputs (12 months of distributions and three years of capital calls) included the impact of planned commitments not yet made, the forecast cash flow inputs in the new ratio reflect the impact of existing commitments only. We believe this provides a more intuitive view of HVPE's coverage of its medium term obligations.
Following the annual review of HVPE's Strategic Asset Allocation targets that took place during the Board's December 2022 Strategy meeting, no changes have been made to the target levels.

HVPE Monthly Factsheet
The Private Equity Cycle
HVPE invests in and alongside HarbourVest-managed funds which focus on primary fund commitments, secondary investments and direct co-investments in operating companies. These in turn drive a steady pace of direct and indirect investment into private company opportunities. These investments develop and grow over a period of several years, before being exited. Proceeds from these distributions then provide the fuel for new commitments and the lifecycle continues.

Notes:
The diversification by net asset value analysis is based on the fair value of the underlying investments, as estimated by the investment manager. Diversification by stage, phase, currency and geography is based on the estimated net asset value of partnership investments within HVPE's fund of funds and company investments within HVPE's co-investment funds. Industry diversification is based on the reported value of the underlying company investments for both fund of funds and co-investment funds. Some of the funds held in HVPE have not been fully invested. The composition of investments by phase, stage, geography, strategy, and industry may change as additional investments are made and existing investments are realised. By phase, mature includes vintage years pre-2013, growth includes vintage years 2013 to 2017, and investment includes vintage years 2018 to 2022.
* Please note the forecast cash flow inputs in this ratio reflect the impact of existing commitments only. Historic 12-month range has been recalculated on this basis.
