FCC obtained an attributable net result during the first half of the year of 232.5 million euros, more than double that achieved in the previous year.

This increase is mainly due to the good performance of the operating activities in all the Group's business areas, as well as the positive performance of the exchange differences recorded throughout the year and the result obtained from the sale of various transport concessions.

The turnover amounted to 3,168 million euros, 12.3%, higher than the half of 2020. This evolution reflects the recovery, which to varying degrees have had the different business areas, after the relative lifting of the restriction measures decreed by governments since mid-March 2020 to contain the health crisis generated by COVID-19.

The FCC Group's gross operating result (EBITDA) reached 529.2 million euros in the first half of the year, an increase of 22% compared to the same period last year. This result is supported by the improvement in operating margins in the Group's activities as a whole, which rises to 16.7%, highlighting an increase in the Construction and Cement businesses of 165.5% and 86.2%, respectively.

The revenue portfolio at the end of the first half of the year rose to 30,993.4 million euros, an increase of 5.4% compared to the end of 2020. Of the revenue portfolio, the Environment area stands out, growing by 15.6% at the end of this period, reaching 10,619.8 million euros, with an outstanding level of hiring.

On the other hand, the Group's net worth grew by 9.3% to reach 3,180 million euros.

Consolidated net financial debt at the end of the first half of the year stood at 2,586.6 million euros, representing a reduction of 7.5% compared to the end of the previous year.

FCC Medio Ambiente increases its waste treatment activity in Spain

The Valladolid City Council has awarded a joint venture led by FCC Medio Ambiente the contract for the design, development and operation of the Domestic Waste Treatment and Disposal Center, which serves more than half a million inhabitants. The contract portfolio amounts to more than 110 million euros over 11 years. It is expected to become operational by the end of next year. The planned investment is close to 45 million euros and will work 5 fractions of differentiated collection: organic, inorganic or remainder fraction, light containers, paper cardboard and glass. The facility, with an expected capacity of 212,500 tons per year, will have, among others, several sorting lines, a biomethanization plant, composting area, a closed reactor for the remainder fraction, a warehouse for the classification of bulky, a treatment plant for the leachate generated in the installation and a cogeneration zone, as well as a final tank for non-recyclable material. It is noteworthy the automation of the treatment and classification lines, a new closed and automatic aerobic treatment system for the remainder fraction (capacity of 55,000 tons /year), the construction of two new refining lines for compost and for biostabilized material, the latter with automatic glass recovery and a new process of purification of the leachate generated with an atmospheric evaporation system, taking advantage of the heat generated in the biogas engines. This project is part of fcc Medio Ambiente's sustainability strategy, which this year presented its main long-term lines. The new valladolid complex will allow the energy consumed to be produced in the cogeneration plant of biogas extracted from the reject tank and biomethanization. Systems and improvements will also be implemented for the treatment of the air generated in the complex and an R&D center will be installed from where, among others, research projects will be managed in the reduction of rejections or in the treatment of leachate.
