Audi AG said Monday that Helmut Stettner was appointed as chief executive of its Chinese joint-venture with automotive company FAW Jiefang Group Co.

The German car maker, a subsidiary of Volkswagen AG, said Mr. Stettner will take on the position from May 1. He is currently plant manager at Audi's site in Neckarsulm, Germany.

Mr. Stettner had already been managing the process of setting up the new joint-venture with FAW in addition to his site-manager role in Germany, Audi said.

"The new company plays a key role in the implementation of our electrification strategy for the Chinese market," Audi's Chief Executive Markus Duesmann said in a statement.
