The establishment of the China Electric Ship Innovation Alliance was announced at the COSCO Shipping Plaza on the afternoon of February 8. With the common expectation of "working together to realize a zero-carbon future" and with joint efforts, China's shipping industry contributes to China's "peaking carbon dioxide emissions and carbon neutrality".

  Relevant leaders from more than 80 institutions, including the Infrastructure Development Department of the National Development and Reform Commission, the Waterway Transport Bureau of the Ministry of Transport, the Center for International Economic and Technological Cooperation of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, the Changjiang Maritime Safety Administration, the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, the Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission, the Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration, the Department of Industry and Information Technology of Fujian Province, the Department of Economy and Information Technology of Hubei Province, the China Classification Society, China COSCO SHIPPING Corporation Limited, and all council members of the China Electric Ship Innovation Alliance, etc., attended the inaugural meeting of the alliance. They witnessed another important milestone in the history of China's green shipping development.

  China Electric Ship Innovation Alliance was organized by COSCO SHIPPING Development Co., Ltd. with the support and coordination of China COSCO SHIPPING Corporation Limited. Members of the Alliance are in the fields including green electric power supply, power batteries, electric propulsion systems, ship design and building, system integration services, specification certification, ports and piers, shore-based battery charging and swapping, domestic trade transport, ferries, scientific research institutes, industrial chain investment and financing, etc. The Alliance boosts green and low carbon development of the shipping industry by being market-oriented, and gives full play to the advantage of cooperation and innovation based on linkage between upstream and downstream enterprises by building a bridge for all members to communicate, so as to create conditions for the growth and development, technical project cooperation, information interconnection and exchange, and communication and learning of the members of the Alliance. In this way, the Alliance will promote the benign development of the industry.

  At the inaugural meeting, Yang Huaxiong, Deputy Director of the Waterway Transport Bureau of the Ministry of Transport, Liu Zhirong, Director of the Highway and Waterway Transport Division under the Infrastructure Development Department of the National Development and Reform Commission, Zhao Xiaolei, Director of the UNIDO ITPO Shanghai, Ye Xing, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission, Zhang Rizhong, General Manager of China Merchants Investment Development Co., Ltd., Chen Jiaqing, Chairman of CECC Shanghai Complete Engineering Co., Ltd., and Huang Xiaowen, Deputy General Manager of COSCO SHIPPING Corporation Limited, delivered speeches successively. Liu Chong, Chairman of COSCO SHIPPING Development Co., Ltd., Cai Yanxian, Vice President of the China Classification Society, Zhu Jianhua, Vice President of the China Waterborne Transport Research Institute of the Ministry of Transport, Tang Jianzhou, Deputy General Manager of Chengtong Mixed Ownership Reform Fund Co., Ltd., and Liu Jingyu, Chairman of CALB, delivered keynote speeches respectively. They congratulated the Alliance on its establishment, discussed the path and prospects of green and zero-carbon development of the shipping industry from various perspectives, and put forward relevant suggestions.

  Members of the project team introduced relevant technologies of the 70OTEU electric ship, which is a demonstration project of ship electrification. At the inaugural meeting, a ceremony was also held for four parties, including COSCO SHIPPING Development Co., Ltd., China Merchants Investment Development Co., Ltd., CECC Shanghai Complete Engineering Co., Ltd. and Chengtong Mixed Ownership Reform Fund Co., Ltd., to sign a strategic cooperation agreement for the green and low carbon project.

  At the end of the meeting, the Secretariat of the China Electric Ship Innovation Alliance reported on the preparations, council and secretariat of the Alliance, and Chairman Liu Chong read the declaration of the inaugural meeting of the Alliance, announcing the establishment of the Alliance. Members of the Alliance will work together to promote the green transformation of the shipping industry and create a great future for the industry.
