Fresher trawler Helga María sailed from Reykjavík last night after a short stopover to land its catch. Skipper Friðleifur Einarsson said that they would be heading back to the Westfjords grounds where they also spent the last trip.

'It has been something of a battle these last few days. It hasn't been easy to get in a good trip and we've had to work harder for it. We had 125 tonnes in the last trip, and taking the conditions into account, we can be satisfied with that,' he said, making the point that they are searching for saithe and cod off the west coast now, and this isn't the season for redfish.

He said that the last trip started in the Víkuráll Gully.

'We had some saithe there, and then 20 tonnes of golden redfish during the night. That came as a real surprise.'

The trip also took them to the Thveráll Gully and along the bank, and there was nowhere as much fish as they could have hoped for. Weather conditions have been changeable recently, and it's no surprise that this gets mentioned.

'Take it from me. There's a big difference between forecasts today and what we used to get. Back then you could expect anything, but now it's rare to see anything other than exactly the weather that's forecast.'
