Bayer appointed Julio Triana as president of its consumer-health division, taking the reins from Heiko Schipper after he asked the company to bring forward the end date of his contract to pursue a career opportunity outside of Bayer.

The German pharmaceutical and agricultural conglomerate said Thursday that Triana, currently head of international commercial operations at Bayer's pharmaceuticals division, would assume his new role on May 1. However, he will be part of Bayer's management board effective April 1.

He joined Bayer in 2002, and served in roles spanning finance, strategy and business development.
