Barclays has named Sasha Wiggins as CEO of its private bank and wealth management. Sasha Wiggins replaces Jean-Christophe Gerard, who was in the role for only 10 months, as bank reveals new strategy. Wiggins, who joined Barclays in 2002, had been group head of public policy and corporate responsibility at the bank for the past three years.

The CEO role was previously held by Jean-Christophe Gerard for 10 months and it is unclear at this stage if he remains at the firm. Gerard oversaw the integration of the private banking and wealth management divisions, which completed in the third quarter of last year. Speaking to Citywire at the time, Gerard said one of the benefits of the unification is scale, with Barclays becoming the leader in terms of private banking and wealth assets in the UK and the number one in pricing.

Wiggins?s appointment was announced as part of a fresh strategy at Barclays, which has seen its share price drop 25% since November 2021, when CS Venkatakrishnan became CEO. The new strategy set out five clear operating divisions, including wealth and private banking. The appointment of Wiggins from head of corporate responsibility to the CEO role appears to reflect something of a trend at the moment.

Earlier this month, Emma Crystal was hired as CEO of Coutts ? she was previously chief sustainability officer at Credit Suisse before its integration into UBS.
