The San Francisco-based company said it had net income of $1.31 per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to $2.09 per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 11 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.95 per share.

The design software company posted revenue of $1.47 billion in the period, which also topped Street forecasts. Ten analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.43 billion.

For the year, the company reported profit of $906 million, or $4.19 per share. Revenue was reported as $5.5 billion.

For the current quarter ending in April, Autodesk expects its per-share earnings to range from $1.73 to $1.78.

The company said it expects revenue in the range of $1.39 billion to $1.4 billion for the fiscal first quarter.

Autodesk expects full-year earnings in the range of $7.89 to $8.11 per share, with revenue ranging from $5.99 billion to $6.09 billion.

Autodesk shares have risen 6% since the beginning of the year, while the S&P's 500 index has climbed almost 7%. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $258.17, a rise of 31% in the last 12 months.
