US household spending rose by 0.8% in March compared with the previous month, on income growth of 0.5%, according to the Commerce Department, figures in line with those anticipated by Jefferies.

Household savings stood at $671 billion, and the household savings rate, i.e. household savings as a percentage of disposable income, was 3.2% in March.
