Visa Executive Chairman Alfred Kelly will retire effective Jan. 23 after about seven years as an executive at the company.

The credit-card giant on Wednesday said it plans to name lead independent director John Lundgren as chair of the board, subject to his reelection at the upcoming shareholders meeting in January.

Kelly joined Visa's board in 2014 and was named chief executive in December 2016 and chairman in April 2019. He became executive chairman in February as he stepped down as CEO.

Kelly will remain at Visa as senior adviser until Feb. 15, the company said.
