Universal Coal plc Announces Executive Changes

Universal Coal plc announced that Emma Lawler has been appointed Joint Company Secretary effective July 1, 2012, upon the resignation of Dan Robinson as Joint Company Secretary. Emma has over 12 years experience as a company secretary in the private and public sectors. Previously, Emma was a Company Secretary at Westpac Banking Corporation where she was responsible for the day-to-day management of all corporate governance and company secretarial matters within the Westpac Group. Emma will be bringing her experience to Universal with the next phase of growth going from an explorer to producer and the Board looks forward to her joining the company.

Universal Coal Plc is engaged in coal mining, coal beneficiation, and mineral exploration and development of coal interests in South Africa. The Company's segments include Exploration and development of coal; Mining and sale of coal, and Corporate. The Company's thermal coal projects include Kangala Mine, NCC Roodekop Coal Project and Brakfontein Coal Project. Its Coking Coal Projects include Berenice/Cygnus and Somerville. The Kangala Mine produces approximately 2.1 million tons of saleable coal per annum and is located approximately 65 kilometers east of Johannesburg. The NCC Roodekop Coal Project is located over 35 kilometers south of the town Witbank and is in development. The Brakfontein Coal Project is located in the Delmas District approximately 20 kilometers south of Kangala Mine. The Berenice-Cygnus Coking Coal Project is located in the Soutpansberg coalfield. The Somerville Project is located in the Tuli coalfield, northwest of the Soutpansberg coalfield.
