TotalEnergies is buying the remaining half of Malaysian gas producer SapuraOMV Upstream for $530 million, following the French energy giant's purchase of Austrian peer OMV's stake.

In January, the oil-and-gas heavyweight reached an agreement with OMV to buy its 50% stake in the venture for $903 million.

On Monday, TotalEnergies said it would own the entirety of SapuraOMV Upstream upon completion of the transactions, totaling $1.43 billion, making it a significant gas operator in Malaysia.

Closing of the deal is expected in the second half of the year, while closing of the transaction announced in January is set around the end of the second quarter.

Last year, SapuraOMV's operated production was about 500,000 cubic feet of natural gas a day. It also holds interests in exploration licenses in Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand and Mexico.
