It may have been a slow ascent for the world and the economy during these challenging times but we are proud to state that we continue to celebrate the high points of our year. From our most precious resource, our people, to our processes and in securing the future of the environment and the larger community, we have sustained our momentum and achieved immense success yet again. In a year that sorely tested us on every aspect of the business, we remained true to our goals of creating a sustainable business. This was recognised and rewarded through the many awards and acclamations that were bestowed upon us and therefore we celebrate the multiple factors that contributed to our unmatched performance, exemplified at the pinnacle of leadership.
Furthering our efforts to ensure minimal negative environmental impact of our operations, Talawakelle Tea Estates PLC's Annual Report for the financial year 2021/22 is presented to you as a carbon neutral publication.
Through a Product Life Cycle Assessment conducted for each copy of the report and CDs, an identified total carbon footprint of 18.76 tCO2e pertinent to the entire preparation and publication process has been offset by purchasing 19 carbon credits from the United Nations Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) from the project activity registered under (VC23676/2022) the UN Clean Development Mechanism.
With this initiative, we hope to create awareness on the urgency of corporate action in addressing the climate emergency.

Talawakelle Tea Estates PLC is a Sri Lanka-based plantation company. The Company is engaged in producing and processing of tea. The principal activity of the Company is the cultivation and manufacturing of black tea. The Company also cultivates rubber and cinnamon on a smaller scale. The subsidiaries of the Company, TTEL Hydro Power Company (Private) Limited and TTEL Somerset Hydro Power (Private) Limited are engaged in generating hydro power. The Company's segments include Tea, Rubber, Mini Hydro Power, and Others. It produces two categories of black teas in 16 tea gardens located in Sri Lanka's tea-growing areas. Specialty tea produced by the Company includes Silver Blossom, Butterfly Blue, Abbotsford Special, Eagleâs Nest, Dragon Ball, Blooming Tea, Jade Delight, Golden Curls, Queen of Blooms, Charcoal Tea, Sparkling Rose, Spirit of Jade, Flowery Blooms, and others. Its high grown estates include Mattakelle, Bearwell, Holyrood, Great Western, Wattegodde, Palmerston and Logie.
