STMicroelectronics said it expanded an agreement to procure substrate wafers of silicon carbide, a semiconductor material, from Rohm's SiCrystal for a minimum value of $230 million.

The European chip maker said Monday the expansion of an existing long-term supply agreement means it will receive larger volumes of SiC substrate wafers to support its plans to ramp up manufacturing capacity for automotive and industrial customers.
