Alsa, part of Mobico Group, has increased its presence in the Canary Islands with the acquisition of bus operator Grupo 1844, the leading provider of tourist and discretionary services in the Canary Islands.

Grupo 1844 was founded in 1979 and is headquartered in Las Palmas. It operates in Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and La Palma, also operating school services, regular routes and last mile services. It has a fleet of 700 vehicles, including buses, minibuses and private hire, employs 1,400 people and last year carried 12.5 million passengers.

Alsa has been present in Canary Islands since 2019 with Guaguas Gumidafe, based in Gáldar (Gran Canaria). This acquisition sees Alsa become a key player in the Canary Islands mobility market, significantly increasing its activity in the tourist transport, a segment where it is intended to grow over the next few years.
