IPC The Hospitalist Company, Inc. (Nasdaq: IPCM), a leading national hospital medicine and post-acute physician group practice company, announced today that Claire de Marcellus Paris, M.D., and Olevia Pitts, M.D., SFHM were named by ACP Hospitalist, a publication of the American College of Physicians, as two of the Top Ten Hospitalists in the nation. They were recognized in the November issue of the magazine.

When she joined IPC in 2010, Dr. Paris served as Practice Group Leader for Sycamore Shoals Hospital, in Tennessee, where she led her team to reduce mortality rates from 2.04 to .61, earning the hospital recognition as a Premier Top Performer. Concurrently she worked on CHF pathways and quality improvements, receiving Gold recognition by the American Hospital Association for consistently maintaining core measures at 100%. Dr. Paris currently serves as an IPC hospitalist at Johnson City Medical Center in Tennessee, which has been named a Top 100 Heart Hospital by Solucient.

Dr. Pitts, an IPC physician since 2010, serves as IPC’s Regional Medical Director for the Kansas City Region. Recently she led a region-wide initiative to expand and improve the quality of care delivered to patients in the post-acute setting. Additionally, Dr. Pitts was instrumental in bringing much needed sub-specialist care to the various facilities at which she practices. She also participated in the development of a soon-to-be implemented neurological telemedicine program for one of the IPC region’s local hospitals. Dr. Pitts also serves on IPC’s Practice Group leadership council, helping mentor younger physicians to be the leaders of tomorrow.

Both Drs. Paris and Pitts have the distinction of being graduates of the IPC-UCSF Fellowship for Hospitalist Leaders program. The IPC-UCSF Fellowship for Hospitalist Leaders is a customized program developed for IPC providers through a partnership with UCSF’s Division of Hospital Medicine (http://hospitalmedicine.ucsf.edu/) and the Center for the Health Professions (http://futurehealth.ucsf.edu/). The program’s vision is to develop a cadre of effective and inspiring leaders to work within their facilities to promote positive change in health care.

“We are very proud that both Dr. Paris and Dr. Pitts have been honored by ACP Hospitalist as two of the country’s preeminent hospitalists,” said Adam Singer, M.D., chairman and CEO of IPC. “Along with their demonstrated clinical expertise, both physicians exemplify IPC’s core values of leadership, teamwork and professionalism. They work diligently to represent our commitment to physician-facility alignment, while providing a continuum of care across all facility types and delivering the highest quality patient care.”

IPC has had 7 physicians named as a “Top Hospitalist” by ACP Hospitalist over the past six years, including Drs. Paris and Pitts who were honored this year.
