Rosseti FGC UES begins key stage of redesigning Ryazan Region's biggest power center

11/10/2021

Mikhailovskaya 500 kV substation releases power from three different power plants and is the biggest power supply center in the Ryazan power system. As part of this project, Rosseti FGC UES plans to completely renew its fleet of 500 kV switching equipment. The 110 kV switchyard is being upgraded in parallel. The total cost of work exceeds 772 mn rubles.

In total, more than 100 units of various switching equipment are to be installed at the substation during the reconstruction. Works are currently underway to replace the old 500 kV air breakers with state-of-the-art gas-insulated units. The new breakers have a high level of operational reliability and a long service life (more than 25 years).

Upon completion of the work, the power facility will be converted to highly reliable gas-insulated switching equipment. The project also includes modernization of telemechanics systems, relay protection and emergency control devices.

The Mikhailovskaya 500 kV substation with a capacity of 1402 MVA is the largest grid facility in the Ryazan Region. It provides power output from the Ryazan, Novomoskovsk and Kashira HPPs and connects the power system of Ryazan with the Moscow, Tula and Kaluga power systems.

Uninterrupted functioning of the power center is largely essential for the reliable delivery of electricity to Ryazan. The substation also supplies power to consumers in the Mikhailovsky, Skopinsky, and Zakharovsky districts of the Ryazan Region, including the Mikhailovsky and Serebryansky cement plants and Russian Railways facilities.
