The 1.6% increase in distributed energy volume is due to weather conditions, 1 in addition to a lengthier billing period2 and improved employment and income conditions,3 leading to increased household consumption and an expending number of customers, particularly in the residential and commercial classes.

The Company saw a 2.9% increase in its customers count, at 2.9% in the captive market and 16.5% in the free market. O The large increase in free-market customers is the product of migrations from the captive market, with 148 customers at EDP SP and 143 at EDP ES.

  • EDP SÃO PAULO: up 0.3% and 0.6%, in the quarter and first half, respectively, due mainly to the residential and commercial classes, under the influence of the rising number of customers.
    • Residential: the 4.5% and 4.4% increases in the quarter and first half, respectively, reflect the expanding number of customers (+3.3%), mitigated by the reduced number of average billing days (-0.4 day in the quarter and -0.8 day in the year to dart);
    • Industrial: the quarter's 1.3% increase reflects higher temperatures (1.2 ºC). In the year to date, the -3.6% decrease is due to the contracting number of customers and lower number of average billing days (-1.1 day);
    • Commercial: the 4.6% and 3.5% growth in the quarter and first half, respectively, as well as in the residential class, are due to the expanding customer base (+3.6%) and higher temperatures (+1.1°C). The number of average billing days (-0.7 day, in the quarter, and -1.1 day in the year to date) had a negative impact on class performance;
    • Rural:the 8.1% decrease is due to milder temperatures and the lower number of average billing days (-0.8 day), as mentioned in connection with the residential class; and
    • Other4: the 10.6% and 7.0% drops in the quarter and first half, respectively, are due to the re-categorization of customers from public service to industrial (-24 GWh). Ex- these effects, the rates would have been -2.0% in the quarter and -2.8%, in the first half. Emphasis on the lower number of average billing days in the quarter (-0.6 day) and in the year to date (-1.1 day).
  • EDP ESPÍRITO SANTO: the 3.6% gain in both the quarter and the year to date is due to the performance of the residential, industrial and commercial classes.
    • Residential: the growth of 10.8% in the quarter and 8.7% in the year to date reflects the positive impacts of the expanding number of customers (2.9%) and the higher number of billing days (+1.8 day in the quarter and +1.9 day in the year to date);
    • Industrial: the positive 1.7% and 1.2% in the quarter e in the year to date, respectively, are due to the positive impact of increased consumption from the metallic ores extraction sector (13.0% in the quarter and 14.5% in the year to date);
  1. Characterized by high temperatures in the São Paulo concession area.
  2. Higher number of average billing days at EDP ES

2Q23 Operational Release

  • Commercial: the increases of 5.6% in the quarter and 4.5%, in the year to date are due to the expanding number of customers (+2.4%) and the higher number of average billing days in the BT (+1.6 day in the quarter and +1.8 day in the year to date);
  • Rural: down 0.7% in the quarter, reflecting the negative impact of heavier rainfall (+83.2 mm), which discouraged the use of electric energy for irrigation purposes. As for the 1.5% growth in the year to date, the positive effect of the higher number of average billing days (+2.1 days) prevailed; and
  • Other4: the decreases of 7.0% in the quarter and 6.4% in the year to date are mainly associated with the negative impacts of the re-categorization of customers form public service to commercial, and to energy efficiency actions in the Public Lighting class.
