1Q23 Operational Release

Consolidated

EDP SP

EDP ES

The 1.6% increase in distributed energy volume is due to weather conditions,1 the favorable performance of retail,2 and the improved jobs market,3 and mainly associated with increased household consumption and an expanding number of customers.

The Company saw a 3.1% increase in its customer count, at 3.0% in the captive market and 15.0% in the free market (142 customers at EDP SP and 115 at EDP ES), due to customers migrating from the captive to the free market.

  • EDP SÃO PAULO: up 0.8%, due mainly to the residential and commercial classes, influenced by the increasing number of customers.
    • Residential: the 4.4% increase reflects the expanding number of customers (+3.7%), mitigated by the lower number of average billing days (-0.4 day) and milder temperatures (-0.8 °C);
    • Industrial: the 1.1% decrease is due to reduced industrial activity, particular emphasis due on chemicals (-6.6%) and metallurgy (- 6.1%);
    • Commercial: as discussed in connection with the residential class, the 2.4% increase is due mainly to the expanding number of customers, mitigated by the lower number of average billing days (-0.4 day) and milder temperatures (-0.8 °C);
    • Rural:the 8.1% decrease is due to the milder temperatures and the lower number of average billing days (-0.8 day), as discussed in connection with the residential class; and
    • Other4: the 3.4% decrease reflects the lower number of average billing days for low voltage ("Baixa Tensão" - BT) (-0.5 day) and milder temperatures (-0.7°C). In addition, the disconnection of an important Public Service customer affected the class.
  • EDP ESPÍRITO SANTO: up 2.9%, due to increase consumption in all classes because of higher temperatures, the growing number of customers and the higher average billing days, except for the Other class.
    • Residential: the 6.8% increase is due to high temperatures (+0.8°C, particularly in February and March), impacting the consumption of micro and mini distributed generation ("MMGD")5. The increased number of customers (3.0%) and higher number of average billing days (+0.1 day) also had a positive effect on class results;
    • Industrial: the 0.6% increase reflects additional industrial activity in the concession area, particular emphasis due on metallic minerals extraction (+16.2%);
    • Commercial: the 3.5% increase is due to the higher number of customers (+2.1%) and average billing days for BT (+0.2 day) and rising temperatures (+0.3°C);
  1. Characterized by high temperatures and low rainfall volume in Espírito Santo.
  2. Retail up 5.4% YtD as of February/23 vis-à-vis the same period in 2022. Source: Serasa Experian. Retailing indicator. February/23
  3. Unemployment was down 2.6 percentage points and real average income regularly received from all occupations was up 7.5% in the moving quarter of December/22-February/23 from the same period in the previous year. Source: IBGE. Continuous National Household Sample Survey - Announced monthly. February/23.
  4. Other includes the public sector, public lighting, public service and own consumption.

5MMGD represents 1.1% and 3.8% of the total load of EDP SP and EDP ES, respectively.

1Q23 Operational Release

  • Rural: the 4.2% increase reflects lower rainfall (-53.0 mm), contributing to increase consumption of electric energy for irrigation purposes; and
  • Other4: the 5.9% decrease reflects the performance of the Public Lighting class, affected by energy efficiency actions.

CONSOLIDATED GENERATION SALES (GWH)

SEASONALLY WEIGHTED HYDROELECTRIC GENERATION

SALES CONTRACTS CONSOLIDATED (%)

  • HYDRO GENERATION

On a consolidated basis, the volume of energy sold was 1,323 GWh, down 15.4% because of the sale of the Mascarenhas HPP, completed in early December 2022, in addition to the lower volume of energy sold from Lajeado (-41.1 GWh) because of the decrease in bilateral agreements executed in the period. Ex- the effects of the disposal of the Mascarenhas HPP, the volume of energy sold would have been down 2.2%. Considering unconsolidated projects,6 the volume of energy sold was up 1.3%.

The year's seasonal weighting curve is flat because of the reduced number of contracts executed for Enerpeixe and the profile of PPAs.

Average GSF was 100.8%, producing 12.8 GWh in secondary energy due to increased hydro generation in the National Interconnected System ("SIN"). Average PLD was R$ 69.0/MWh (SE/CO Sub-market).

  • THERMAL GENERATION

The Plant's uptime for the quarter was 99.5% because of a scheduled maintenance stop at UG01 in February. The Plant has seen no dispatch since December 2021, reflecting the improved hydrological scenario over the course of 2022 and the resulting increase in reservoir levels and hydro generation.

TRADING

The volume of energy traded was 5,229 GWh, up 35.7% because of directional trading execution opportunities associated with the favorable hydrological scenario, the SIN load realization, and the maintained low level of prices, leading to decreased volatility. These factors led to an increase in transaction volume and in operations with higher value added.

RETAIL AND WHOLESALE

The volume of energy sold was 573 GWh, up 134% as a result of customers migrating from the captive to the free market, as well as of increased consumption due to lower energy prices. It is also worth emphasizing that the increased customer count was a result of regulatory changes pursuant to Ministry of Mining and Energy ("MME") Ordinance No. 465/2019, which reduced the minimum consumption requirement for migration from 1,000 kW to 500 kW starting in 2023.
