BWT, Europe's leading water technology company, was honoured with three awards for its E1 Single Lever filter. The LifeCare Initiative presented BWT with the Home & Trend Award for 'Innovation of the Year 2014' and the 'Best of the Best' Golden Award in the 'Building and Interiors' category. BWT was also delighted to receive the EESC European Award 2014 for 'Excellent Design and Sustainability' given by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC). The three prizes were presented on 1st September at the consumer goods trade fair 'Tendence' in Frankfurt. The design and sustainability experts at the LifeCare Initiative and the EESC emphasised the excellent design of the product of the domestic water filter, which makes tap water much easier to filter. It is user-friendly and gives every household access to a continuous supply of high-quality drinking water, benefiting not only individuals, but society as a whole.

Simple steps to clean water

"We are delighted that our E1 Single Lever filter received these three accolades, which reinforce our claim to combining sustainability, intuitive ease of use and innovative design; themes that have been central to our work for many years", says Lutz Hübner, CEO of BWT Germany and Austria. The E1 Single Lever filter is very simple to operate and is installed at the point of entry into the house to protect domestic water installations from impurities and foreign particles. This is because although water treatment plants and water supply companies provide clean and safe drinking water, particles such as sand, sealant and metal shavings can find their way into the pipes during repair, renovation or new connection work and then penetrate the domestic system. The E1 Single Lever filter traps these foreign bodies, stopping them from causing dripping taps, clogged drainage sieves, sticky valves and numerous costly repairs to household appliances. Users can also replace the filter element very easily in under 30 seconds, while an LED display on the filter and automatic email reminders prompt users to change the filter at regular intervals.

Cooperation in promoting sustainability

Every year the EESC and the LifeCare Initiative recognise products that have excelled in their approach to design and innovation. They must also show evidence of high-level functionality and sustainability in both production and application. The Home & Trend Award is an independent seal of quality awarded by the LifeCare Initiative to help consumers make sense of the diverse and often confusing range of products on the market. The EESC presents the awards in association with the LifeCare initiative and uses the EESC European Award to promote quality of life in Europe.
