Kryvyi Rih, May 10, 2018. PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih mastered a new type of products as per the standard of Israel - S500W vanadium alloyed welding reinforcing bar of 25 mm. The first shipment of this rebar amounted to 1 thousand tons. Few days ago, the product was shipped from Mykolaiv commercial seaport.

The main advantages of reinforcing bar of grade S500W are seismic resistance and weldability. PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih also produces the analogue according to British standard - grade В500С. However, the requirements of Israeli standard are much stricter. It is important not only to meet the range of mechanical properties, but also to provide for their stability as well. The range of properties is being carefully tracked, and the number of taken samples of this product is 5 times more than one of regular reinforcing bars.

Construction industry is aiming to reduce costs due to the increase of prices of all construction materials, including reinforcing steel. It makes 30-40% from the total cost of reinforced concrete structures. That is the exact reason, the world's demand for high-tensile steel, which is used to strengthen concrete structures, has increased. With this steel, the structures have better performance and are more resistant to natural disasters. The use of steel grade 500 reduces steel consumption by up to 15% compared to steel grade 400.

- Our supplies of long rebar to Israel are continuously increasing. The share of PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih in Israel import with respect to this product was 0.6% in 2014, and it increased up to 10% in 2017. Starting from July 1, 2018, all rebar imported to this country is to be weldable. At the beginning of this year, Standards Institution of Israel confirmed that our company has successfully obtained the certificate to produce and sell reinforcing bars according to Israeli standard for weldable grades - 400D and 500C. Possibility to supply weldable grades to Israeli customers helps to expand our market share. Growing number of orders from the customers also helps to reduce the logistics and transportation costs (freight).

Vanadium alloying is carried out during the stage of steelmaking. When interacting with nitrogen that steel contains, vanadium carbonitrides are formed - small-sized but quite solid particles that provide for the increase in steel strength, viscosity, as well as fatigue and wear resistance. It makes high-risers constructed using such rebars seismic resistant and they could stand against earthquakes, fire and other unfavorable weather conditions in seismic zones. Vanadium additives contribute to increase in yield strength and increase in yield strength / tensile strength ratio which is significant for building structure stability.
