Aetna (NYSE: AET) announced today that Ren Elder has been appointed head of Pharmacy for Aetna, Inc. In this role, Elder will have responsibility for Aetna's Pharmacy business including Specialty Pharmacy Disease Management and Aetna Rx Home Delivery®. Elder will help to further develop Aetna's Pharmacy Benefit Management integrated capabilities as well as manage Aetna's strategic agreement with CVS Caremark.

Elder joins Aetna from WellPoint, Inc., where he served as the President of NextRx®, WellPoint's pharmacy business. In that role, he oversaw mail order delivery and specialty pharmacy facilities. He also was responsible for the company's retail pharmacy network relationships.

Elder began his career at Lovelace Health Care, located in Albuquerque, NM as a staff Pharmacist. He rose through the ranks at Lovelace, eventually taking on the role of Director of Pharmacy. In 1992 Elder joined Diversified, a division of United Health Care, as Senior Manager of Clinical Programs. Following his service at United, Elder spent ten years at PCS (now part of CVS Caremark) culminating his career there as Senior Vice President, Underwriting and Pharmacy Network Strategies.

Elder is a registered pharmacist, and holds a Masters of Business from the University of Phoenix.
