DiversityInc announced that Aetna (NYSE: AET) was named as one of its Top 50 Companies for Diversity, ranking 19th on this year’s list. The company has been named to the list eight times since the rankings began in 2001. Aetna also ranks 10th on DiversityInc’s list of Top 10 Companies for LGBT Employees.

To qualify for The DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity list, participating companies must have more than 1,000 employees and provide empirical data related to four key areas of diversity management. According to DiversityInc, Aetna demonstrated strength in all four areas: CEO commitment; talent pipeline; talent development; and supplier diversity.

“At Aetna, we believe that a strong, diverse company is one that ensures its employees can realize their full potential and aspire to be all that they can be,” said Grace Figueredo, Aetna’s vice president of Workplace Culture and chief Diversity & Inclusion officer. “We know that it takes focus, rigor, a collaborative spirit and commitment to make the list and we are honored to share this distinction with other noteworthy companies.”

“As executive sponsor of Aetna’s LGBT employee resource group, I take great pride in being named a top 10 company for LGBT employees,” said Karen Rohan, executive vice president of Aetna’s Local and Regional Businesses. “Aetna encourages employees to understand and believe that workplace equality is key to our company’s values. We are proud to stand alongside our LGBT colleagues in a workplace that leverages difference as strength.”
