Bernardo Velázquez, CEO of Acerinox, was appointed as Chairman of the Spanish Union of Iron and Steel Companies (UNESID) in the General Shareholders' Meeting held today.

Velázquez has been a member of the Board of Directors of Unesid since he was appointed as Vice Chairman in 2010, the year in which he also became CEO of Acerinox.

Followinghis appointment, Velázquez has said that 'it is an honour for both me and Acerinox and it demonstrates the willingness of Unesid and its associates to maintain a line of transparency, participation and consensus, with the only objective of working for the common interest of the industry'.

During his career at Acerinox, he has been a member of the Board of Directors of North American Stainless (USA), Columbus Stainless (South Africa) and Bahru Stainless (Malaysia) where he was Chairman.

He also currently holds the positions of Chairman of North American Stainless (USA) since May 2016, Chairman of ACERINOX EUROPA S.A.U. (Cadiz), since December 2011 and Inoxcenter.

As top executive of Acerinox, one of the most internationalised steel companies and a benchmark in the global stainless steel market, Velázquez also holds the positions of Vice Chairman of the International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF), Chairman of the Eurofer Stainless Steel Group (The European Steel Association) and Member of the World Steel Association.
