Communications services companies slid after weak earnings from cable and social networking bellwethers.

Comcast shares plunged after the cable and entertainment conglomerate posted an increase in streaming service rose in the first quarter but warned a decline in broadband subscriptions continued.

The National Basketball Association is advancing toward a series of major media deals, with Amazon and Google's YouTube vying for a new streaming package and NBCUniversal trying to grab one of the longstanding TV-licensing deals held by Disney's ESPN and Warner Bros. Discovery's TNT.
