Feinstein: Prime Minister Netanyahu is Wrong About Iran Nuclear Agreement

Washington-Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today issued the following statement in response to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's remarks on the Iran nuclear agreement during an interview with Fareed Zakaria:

'Prime Minister Netanyahu on Sunday made comments about the Iran nuclear agreement that were either misleading or outright false.

'The truth is the agreement blocks every path for Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon and Iran remains in full compliance, an assessment shared by our intelligence community, our global partners and the International Atomic Energy Agency.

'Despite the prime minister's claims, no site is off limits for IAEA inspectors, including military sites. If there is a legitimate reason to inspect any site, Iran must allow IAEA inspectors in within 24 days or the United States could reimpose sanctions. The IAEA continues to have unprecedented access to Iran's nuclear activities, from uranium mining and milling to uranium enrichment and disposal.

'The prime minister is also incorrect that the agreement gives Iran the 'wherewithal to produce nuclear weapons.' In reality, the agreement explicitly bans Iran from ever developing nuclear weapons. Iran is also required to implement policies that would enshrine the IAEA's oversight of Iran's nuclear activities in perpetuity.

'In the coming months, President Trump must decide whether or not to scrap or keep the nuclear agreement with Iran. The president would be wise to ignore the misinformation being spread by its opponents and instead listen to his own intelligence community.'
