Consumer companies rose after inflation data came in slightly more muted than anticipated.

The unexpectedly strong consumer-prices component in the gross-domestic product data Thursday had spurred concerns about a surge in March inflation, said economists at brokerage Bank of America Global Research.

The final reading of the sentiment survey dropped to 77.2 from 77.9 in early April, the University of Michigan said.

Home Services of America, a real-estate brokerage firm that is part of Warren Buffett's conglomerate has reached a settlement in the landmark antitrust case against the industry, though the amount was a fraction of what the plaintiffs have aimed to recover.
