Communications services companies slipped as traders rotated out of the leading sectors.

Shares of LM Ericsson rose after the telecom-services giant said it would cut around 1,200 jobs in Sweden as it adjusts to a lower-volume environment.

Walt Disney shares rose after analysts at brokerage Vista Outdoor shares rallied after MNC Capital boosted its offer to buy the maker of sporting and outdoor products including ammunition by $2.50 a share, to $37.50 a share.

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski said they strongly objected to NBC News's hiring of former Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel as a contributor, calling her an "anti-democracy election denier."
