BOE Meeting Could Prove Volatile For Pound

1249 GMT - The Bank of England's meeting on Thursday is likely to prove particularly volatile for sterling, foreign exchange broker TickMill says. While the BOE is expected to raise interest rates by 50 basis points or possibly 75 basis points, it could "double down" on the gloomy warnings it issued at its last meeting, Tickmill analyst James Harte says in a note. Data on Monday suggested the U.K. is heading into a recession as gross domestic product fell 0.3% in the three months to October, he says. Given the weak outlook, the BOE could become more divided with the potential for a four-way split vote on Thursday, he says. "Such an outcome would no doubt fuel an uptick in investor uncertainty, hitting U.K. asset prices." (renae.dyer@wsj.com)

Market Talk:

LSEG's Microsoft Deal Could Broaden Workspace Appeal

1134 GMT - London Stock Exchange Group PLC's partnership with Microsoft Corp. could make Workspace, its data and analytics solution, materially more attractive, say Jefferies analysts in a note. The development of a new version of LSEG Workspace with seamless Teams and Microsoft 365 interoperability--available from mid-2024--is the most significant component of the agreement, they say. "This could transformationally broaden the appeal of that product, with a potentially compelling alternative to Instant Bloomberg available for the first time," the brokerage says. The partnership feels like a milestone in LSEG's journey towards being information solutions-centric, though revenue growth specifics are lacking, says Jefferies, which has a buy rating on the stock. LSEG shares are up 3.5% at 7,664 pence. (elena.vardon@wsj.com)
