The Shields and Elizabeth intersection will be closed from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, July 23 for paving. The underpass at that intersection is nearing completion and will be open to the public in mid-August; paving the intersection is one of the final steps.

Shields Street will be closed at University Avenue for all northbound traffic. Southbound travelers on Shields will be able to turn west onto Elizabeth Street. Eastbound Elizabeth will be closed at City Park Avenue, with access open to all businesses on Elizabeth between City Park and Shields.

Bicycle and pedestrian detour routes will be designated near the work zone. Recommended vehicle detour routes are along Mulberry Street or Prospect Road, to Taft Hill Road or College Avenue. Local residential and business access will be open during the closure.

Travelers are encouraged to drive slowly and avoid distractions when passing through the construction zone.

The underpass is a joint project between the City of Fort Collins and Colorado State University, and has been under construction since February.
