Hosted by Navient, the community race supports Hanover Township Fire Department

WILKES-BARRE, Pa., Feb. 15, 2018 - Get ready to lace up your running shoes for Navient's third annual Ladders and Laces 5K on Sunday, April 22. Whether you choose to walk or run, you can support the Hanover Township Fire Department efforts in maintaining safe communities.

'The funds raised for our department has taken us to the next level of professionalism in our never-ending quest to assist people in their time of need,' said Joseph Temerantz, department chief, Hanover Township Fire Department. 'Thank you for allowing us to be the best we can be. You are truly our heroes.'

The annual event, coupled with Navient employee contributions, has raised more than $30,000 to support the construction and furnishing of the new fire house. The building was unveiled last month. Funds also helped to purchase a state-of-the-art fire engine which will debut at this year's race. This year, donations will be used to purchase additional life-saving equipment.

'We are proud to host the third annual Ladders and Laces 5K to support our hometown community,' said Lisa Stashik, vice president and Wilkes-Barre center head, Navient. 'This public event combines the efforts of our approximately 900 Navient employees and many community members to support our brave first responders.'

The 3.1 mile race will be held on Sunday, April 22, at 220 Lasley Ave., Hanover Township, Pennsylvania. Registration will open at 7 a.m. and the race will kick off at 9 a.m.

Advance registration is available until March 1 for a $20 fee ($12 without a t-shirt). Regular registration runs from March 1 until race day for a $25 fee ($17 without a t-shirt). T-shirts are guaranteed to all participants who pre-register by April 1.

Awards will be presented to the top three men and women runners in each age bracket as well as the top overall finishers. The event will be held rain or shine.

Again this year, Navient employees will also raise additional funds for the fire department through the company's popular Jeans BeCause program, which offers participating employees a 'pass' to dress casually on certain days for volunteer donations.
